I run VMWare's Horizon client 4.10.0 on Ubuntu 18.04 under XFCE. Typically, I need to click on an application window to set focus (i.e. cause keyboard input to get sent to that window). If I then move the mouse pointer outside the window, keyboard input still goes to the last window I clicked on. This is the input model I like and want. My problem was similar, but not exactly the same. VMWare Player 3.1.4 on a host of Ubuntu 10.10, 64-bit, and a client of 32-bit WinXP. For me, the mouse moved wherever on the screen, but Windows seemed to think it was mostly in the lower left corner, so when I clicked, the start menu would toggle. Great, and thank you very much. Right-click the remote desktop and select VMware Blast or PCoIP. Connect to the remote desktop. Select Options > Enable Relative Mouse from the Horizon Client menu bar. The option is a toggle. To disable the relative mouse feature, select Options > Enable Relative Mouse again.
